I redesigned OLD SOUL MUSIC and I think it’s much better.  I enabled infinite scrolling so the music player wouldn’t stop and reload on every page load.  The design is simple and easy to navigate.  Give it a listen and tell me what you think. -Ricky

Tony Borders,
Cheaters Never Win

oldsoulmusic:

Tony Borders - Gentle On My Mind

Gorgeous version of this 1968 Grammy award-winning song by country/folk singer John Hartford.  This song makes me sad.  But not that red, urgent type of sad.  Sort of that subdued low ache that’s been your constant passenger for years and this tune is on the AM dial, squeezing out the very last of what makes you good inside. -Ricky

Lou Johnson,
With You in Mind

oldsoulmusic:

Lou Johnson - Living Without You (Volt, 1971)

From his LP “With You In Mind”. One hell of a record, man. Arrangements by Allen Toussaint.  I think I’m going to go on a Lou Johnson binge.  Found at Funk Your Soul, a fantastic soul and funk blog. -Ricky

Bobby Powell,
Louisiana Soul

oldsoulmusic:

Bobby Powell - Late In The Evening & Reprise (Live on THE !!!! BEAT)

Bobby has been killing me for the past month or two.  His deeply southern sensibilities as a singer, piano player and songwriting really grab me.  Here’s a live recording with an added reprise from one of his appearances on the popular R&B television show The !!!! BEAT.

Bettye Swann - (My Heart Is) Closed For The Season (Capitol, 1968)

This song gives me chills.  Love love love the arrangement and her sweet voice.

Say what’s up to me!

oldsoulmusic:

Hector Rivera - I Want A Chance For Romance

Some Latin Boogaloo for ya.  A stray single put out on Barry Records around the time he released his LP “At The Party”.  Hot hot HOT.
